Abstract

Green spaces are integral parts of cities and nowadays, their maintenance and development are more
essential because of supporting quality of life and urban sustainability. However, in order to play
these roles, green spaces should have some characteristics including species diversity, appropriate
area, distribution and location. In this research species, richness and diversity of trees and shrubs
considered as overall green spaces of mountainous cities in central Zagros as a indices. For this aim,
100% inventory method was conducted in both sides and refuge of Ayatollah- Kashani Boulevard.
Then in Ecological Methodology and PAST software, Margalef, Menhenic, Simpson and ShannonWeaner indexes computed. According to results, based on both Margalef and Menhenic indexes, the
species richness is very weak (3.065 and 0.257 respectively). However, species dversity based on
both Simpson and Shannon-Weaner is good (0.826 and 2.96 respectively). Finally, based on
observation of neighboring cities and ecological conditions some tree and shrub species
recommended for Shahrekord.
