Abstract

Gradual or sudden drying out of gray mangrove (Avicennia marina) forests in Nayband gulf in northern coasts of Persian Gulf is becoming a pandemic problem in recent years, causing reduction in green spaces, habitat destruction and uncertainty in a sustainable outlook in the region. In comparison with Bidkhoon bay, due to man-made barriers installed on the mouth of Basatin bay, the sea flow and tide movement seized. Considering the difference, the current study tried to measure the mechanism and possible qualitative and quantitative weakness in reminded trees and soil/water across both bays. The results showed that there were no differences between the trees diameters and assets, which emphasize the possibility of sudden dieback in gray mangrove trees. In addition, two artificial factors: vicinity to heavy black oil tanks and vicinity to village roads showed significant positive impact on the tree dieback in the mangroves.
